About the subject | the choice of the reference photo
Ian Somerhalder, this time, as himself. Yes, I portrayed him again just because I like him, his acting skills since LOST and I find him attractive. Yep, a few sensible reasons For many years [perhaps 5] I've had the reference photo saved on my PC in a folder called "Da sm3xY'n'CuT3 guYz I w4nnA dR4w sUmd4i x3 xDDDD"[just kidding ] and finally made up my mind and drawn him. I started in June and finished yesterday. Over one month. I found out that long breakes/long creation process doesn't work for me as I hope it would have turned out a lil' bit different.
About the portrait itself
Funny thing is that some time ago I'd had 'drawn' all those white dots and zigzags on his tie by leaving unshaded places. But when it came to drawing the tie, I figured it would be easier - and probably more effective - to draw this pattern with a white gel pen. It doesn't mean I'm not so devoted to art as I used to be, I just wanted to try out a new trick which also makes drawing easier I used the white gel pen to correct these 2 white spots in his eyes as well. I resigned from drawing the pattern of his shirt as I thought too many patterns in one drawing are... too many. This crappy background has been drawn on my own. Wish it would be more smooth, but I have never been good at plain backgrounds Didn't want to blend, but I did. A little. And I also blended an itsy-bitsy part of his shirt [not the collar, the part which covers Ian's torso]. These are my all sins. Somehow I have a strange feeling as if the portrait was still not finished, but I don't know what else I can do Maybe it's because of his plain shirt? I'm thinking of portraying Ian from the same photo shoot, but from the picture in which he's widely smiling to make a serious against happiness diptych , but it's only a random thought which might or might not turn into a real drawing.
I hope you like it! Thanks for your feedback in advance
