About the subject

Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, the main character of Tolkien's book and Jackson's movie.
This is my entry for :iconpbird12: coffee contest :aww: I picked The Hobbit fan art for the theme of my entry, because I'm in love with this movie. I read the book about a decade ago, just after my obsession with Tolkien's magic world has begun. I drew a lot of actors of LOTR's cast. So I wasn't surprised when I left the cinema with the huge [as huge as Kili's parasites ] grin on my face. Secondly, I felt that Mr. Baggins and brownish tones of coffee would look great together. Since the hobbit's adventure starts in his home and the aim is to reach Erebor, I decided to depict these two places in my painting.

About the painting

I went through every type of mood while painting this piece: starting from joy through indifference to anger. I find painting with coffee trickier than painting with watercolours [but at least it allows you refine mistakes]. I had serious problems with obtaining the dark colour, I used so much coffee that now we're running out of it at home :lmao: I tried 3 different types of coffee, the instant one turned out to be the best, but I had an out-of-date one, so it stank horribly! Nothing pleasant.
There's plenty of shortcomings, but I will keep telling myself it was my first attempt at using coffee as a medium.
Don't look at his hand. Don't look at his face. Don't look at anything.

First of all I want to point out that I'm not nearly this good at Traditional art.

I really love the The whole feel of this portrait. It looks simple but you can tell very much time and love went into it.I love the sketchiness, it's completely appropriate. The plain color is perfect I wouldn't have it any other way. I love how every thing is brown except his eyes.

The only thing I can think that would be a problem is that I wish it was a little more Sharp... I think more detail around the eyes ( which might be hard with the materials you are using and your technique as well,in which case I apologize) Overall this is a fantastic piece of art and you should be extremely proud of yourself.
