About the subject
Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes of BBC series, Sherlock. Since a couple of months I've been coming across many Sherlock fan arts [I have to mention *naturalshocks's stunning drawings in the first place!], hearing people talk about the show, but... But somehow I couldn't get into it and start watching, even though I had the 1st season on my PC in 2010 [thanks to a friend of mine who recommended me Sherlock that year]! I wasn't convinced as a lover of past times. Sherlock in the 21st century, having the mobile phone and surfing the Internet? Nay. But this summer I decided to give it a try and I wasn't disappointed: I watched all the episodes in 3 days Several days ago I finished watching Sherlock for the second time. Can't wait for the 3rd season! I found the reference picture of Benedict by googling, but I can't remember from which episode the screencapture is. I added the red words to refer to the mind palace scene in Sherlock 2x02. I listed various words that appeared in the whole series. If you wonder what they mean, google or ask me
About the drawing
The drawing wasn't so easy to render. I don't have to mention about the hands, which have been my weakness since ever; but I do have to tell you this guy's facial features were adkjdsjkd to capture .___. Benedict has a unique face, he's not the type of Hollywood Mr. Hottie, his look is rather a bit odd. What I read about him and what totally conquered my heart - apart from the fact he's well educated and pretty versatile - was that he thinks he looks like a horse. Oh dear Gotta love the people who can laugh at themselves! Anyway, unfortunately my Benedict has lost some resemblance. The red words look better in real. It took me ages to correct the scan in Photoshop so they look quite similar to the drawing >.<
I promise I draw some decent pencil portrait of Benedict Cumberbatch/Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman/John Watson, but I am afraid it won't happen this year, I don't have time nor strength.
Oh, I really like this one! The way the light hits his face and the shading all look very natural. His hands look great as well though. I also always have trouble drawing hands, but I find it easier to do with white pencil on black paper. Is that the same for you as well, or?
I like Benedict's face, although I have to admit it takes some 'getting used to,' if you get what I mean. His face is just very different from the average face, but in a good way.
Oh, thank you kindly I'm not very satisfied with it, but I'm happy you find it nice. Frankly speaking, I don't know if it's easier for me to draw hands on black paper than white one... but it's much quicker for sure
I agree. Once you get used to his unique and odd facial features, they don't... glare so much. But still, I can't find him handsome as other girls do
Hmm yeah me neither. I find his face really interesting, so that's the main attraction for me. Can't explain very well, but it's just... INTERESTING. I don't know why but it just is.
BTW nice work
You're welcome
